Jacob Becomes Faithful

Jacob received the same promises from God that Abraham did. They were promised the land of Canaan and that Jesus would be born through their lineage. Jacob wasn’t perfect and neither are we. God works His purpose through us even though we are totally imperfect. He IS perfect. His plan is perfect. And it will all come to fruition in His perfect time.

Jacob, Isaac’s Son — find the stories of Jacob’s early life here.

Jacob’s Ladder — Genesis 28

This slide presentation includes a video of the story, Jacob’s Ladder, songs, memory text, a reading of the story from scripture while the kids pretend to be Jacob, and a craft.

The Lord’s messages to Jacob for activity

Jacob Meets Rachel — Genesis 28

God was with Jacob. He had a safe trip. When he was near Harran, he found shepherds who knew Laban and then met Rachel. Later Jacob arranged to work for Laban so that he could marry Rachel. Jacob was a shepherd too. What do shepherds do to take care of sheep? Jesus said that He is our shepherd. He takes care of us. He takes care of us, even when bad things happen. What happened next was not fair. When it was time for Jacob to get married to Rachel, Leah was the secret bride. Jacob was tricked!

Jacob — Work, Wages, and a Witness Pile — Genesis 30-31*

Jacob worked for 14 years for Leah and Rachel and then made an agreement with Laban. The streaked, spotted, mottled goats and sheep and black lambs would belong to Jacob. The plain colored would be Laban’s. Despite 10 wage changes, Jacob’s mating techniques were successful, thanks to God’s blessing and Laban and his sons became jealous, creating tensions. Jacob and his family decided to leave secretly, this didn’t resolve any difficulties. What can we do to resolve conflict? They made an agreement and a rock pile. The kids have an opportunity to do the same and make a Modge Podge rock with the a key verse. Through it all God watched over Jacob. (Genesis 31:49) God has plan to prosper us and give us hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Memory verse Modge Podge Rock Craft

Jacob and Esau are Reunited — Genesis 32-33

Jacob ran because of his own lies and deceit. Then he ran because of Laban’s deceit. Now God told him to go home. He must face his brother, Esau. How will he make peace? How can we be peacemakers? First he prayed and humbled himself before God. He came to be at peace. Secondly, He humbled himself before his brother. He spoke and acted with humility. He was kind and gave gifts. This lesson includes an object lesson, craft, and a time in a tent.

Jacob worships the LORD God Almighty — Genesis 35

In the midst of lies and deceit, God showed Himself to be Faithful and True. This lesson focuses on our Almighty God and how He is faithful even when we aren’t. He is merciful and always keeps His promises. The lesson also includes a review of Jacob’s life in the form of a Tic Tac Toe game.

* Previous Power Points

These 2 Power Points are combined and included in the above “Jacob — Work, Wages, and a Witness Pile” PowerPoint. I’m leaving them here because they focus on particular themes.

Jacob Works Faithfully — Genesis 30

This 15 slide slide presentation goes through the story of Jacob working to pay the dowry for Rachel, only to get Leah. He loves Rachel so much he works faithfully another 7 years for her. Jacob worked hard even when life didn’t seem fair.
We too should faithfully do our work.

Jacob Runs Away — Genesis 30:25-43

Jacob ran, but Laban catches up. God helps them to solve their disagreement and make a peaceful agreement. In this slide presentation we look at how to solve disagreements.

Noah and the Flood

Right now we are in the midst of disasters. Even though it may not always be apparent, God is with us. He will give us strength, peace, hope, and faithfully bring us through this time. Noah experienced the same thing.

I hope you find these PowerPoint presentations helpful as you tell the children in your ministry the stories of the Bible. You will find the Bible texts, pictures, activities, and songs.

Noah Builds the Ark — Genesis 6

This presentation tells the true story of Noah building the ark found in Genesis 6. It also includes photos of our visits to the Ark in Kentucky and tar pits in LA which I enjoyed sharing with the kids.

Noah and the animals enter the Ark — Genesis 7-8

This presentation includes songs and the true Bible story of Noah and the animals entering the ark found in Genesis 7. Did you know that they were on the ark for a full year! How did they take care of the animals? What was it like?

Rainbow Reminder of God’s Promise — Genesis 9

This presentation finishes the story of Noah and the Ark. God kept Noah safe. He made a covenant to never destroy all life nor the earth with a flood ever again. God always keeps His promises. He is faithful and we can have faith in Him.

Evidences of the Flood

A Skyscraper and Confusion at Babel — Genesis 11

The people wanted to build a huge city, a tall skyscraper, and make a name for themselves. God knew that would just create problems, so He put a stop to it by making many languages. The people spread out through-out the earth just as God wanted them to.

In this presentation, we look at how God cares for everyone in this world. We explore the many languages and affirm that God cares for us no matter what our color or nationality. God love me. God loves you!

Get out your Lego’s or building blocks. Let’s build a tower as we learn the story of the tower of Babel.

Isaac’s Family

I’ve used the following Google Slide presentations as an important aspect of our time on Zoom. I like that I can show song or special feature videos and move seamlessly into the lesson. The lesson has the scripture and corresponding pictures and interactive reading and activities. Each presentation has 15-20 slides. Check them out. I hope you can use them in your ministry also. I offer them free, just like God’s gift of salvation.

Isaac and his family were definitely not perfect, but then none of us are. Yet God’s promise to his father Abraham was reiterated to Isaac and Jacob. It is into their lineage that Jesus was born. It is God’s passionate desire to heal the sick and brokenhearted, to lift up those who are oppressed or disheartened, and to save everyone from sin and sadness. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. All we have to do is accept His precious gift and choose to follow Him.

A Wife for Isaac — Genesis 24

Abraham gave his servant a very important task. The servant did exactly what he was told to do. In this presentation we talk about the importance of doing the will of God — loving God and others — serving one another. Rebecca was quick to serve and care for the servant and for his 10 camels! Learn about camels and play along with the story.

Jacob buys Esau’s Birthright — Genesis 25

Isaac and Rebecca couldn’t have children for 20 years. Isaac prayed for Rebecca and she had twins! They were very different! In this presentation, we play a game called, Would You Rather, which allows kids to choose between 2 activities. We celebrate our differences and affirm that God has created each one of us unique and gives us important things to do. The sad part is that Esau didn’t want the important job that the Birthright involved. He chose to sell it for a pot of stew. We want to accept God’s plan for our lives.

Jacob deceives Isaac — Genesis 27-28

This presentation includes songs, an object lesson, the interactive telling of the Bible story of Jacob and Esau from Genesis 27, a game including truth or lie scenarios, an object lesson about honesty, and a story book about honesty.

Jacob Becomes Faithful — the stories continue here.

Paul Becomes a Missionary — Acts 11, 13-14

Barnabas was a very accepting person. Of the disciples in Jerusalem, it was he that was the first to believe that Saul had truly changed and had become a Christian. It was he that stood up for Paul, which was Saul’s new name, and helped the other believers in Jerusalem accept Paul, too as a new believer.

When the believers (those who believed in Jesus) heard that many in Cyprus were beginning to believe in Jesus also, they sent Barnabas to help share the good news of the gospel. Barnabas was quick to see the opportunity to get Paul involved and begin his ministry to the Gentiles.

These lessons teach us how we too can tell others the good news of the Gospel. Jesus accepts us. He wants everyone to be in His family of believers!

Paul’s First Missionary Journey

Barnabas and Saul in Antioch — Acts 11

In this presentation our focus is “We work together to serve God.” We see how men from Cyprus, Barnabas, and Saul-Paul worked together to tell the people of Antioch about Jesus. Our object lesson demonstrates the benefit of working together, too. It was here in Antioch that the believers were first called Christians.

Paul and Barnabas 1st missionary journey — Acts 13

Get on board mates! We’re heading to Cyprus and then North across the Mediterranean Sea and inland. Let’s tell others about Jesus! You are God’s workmanship. He created you to do good works which He has prepared for you to do. We’ll play a guessing game and make an origami ship, sing, and learn about Paul’s trip and message along the way. Join in on the fun and action.

Paul’s 1st Missionary Journey — Activity cards, picture to color, ship ticket, and gospel messages

Paul and Barnabas continue to Iconium and Lystra — Worship God, the Creator — Acts 14

Paul and Barnabas healed a lame man and the people thought the gods had come down to them. Paul and Barnabas were quick to point out that no, the came to tell them about the true God, our Creator. In this lesson we focus on worshiping God, our Creator and Sustainer. Praise His Holy Name.

Bridges

We just had fun doing the Pathfinder Honor Bridges at our district’s honors day.  Many have enjoyed seeing the honor info in Power Point mode.  If you, too, are interested here is what I compiled.  The information comes from the wiki Pathfinder online.

The kids really enjoyed making their bridges!

We started off our time with talking about how Jesus is a bridge giving us salvation, which is the 9th requirement.  This is the first slide of the Power Point.BridgesPPSlide1  What I said went something like this:  When we sin, we break the law of God. (I broke a Popsicle stick for emphasis and used it to demonstrate the following.)  God already has a plan to mend our relationship and fix the sin problem.  Initially he showed what that plan was by having His people sacrifice a lamb.  Doing this helped them know His true plan, that Jesus would come and die for our sin because sin brings death.  Jesus payed the penalty for our sin.  Sacrificing the lamb was not a true fix.  It was like putting a clip on the two broken parts.  It kind of works, but it’s not permanent and the sticks can still move apart.  Jesus is one with God.  (I glued one half of the broken stick to a good stick.)  Jesus and God are full of love.  They love you.  They both want you and I to be with them.  When we accept Jesus as our Savior and let Him come in our heart we choose to let Him be in charge.  We become one with Him.  (I glued the other half of the broken stick to the good stick.)  Now the relationship is mended.  Now we can join God in making something cool!

Bridges Honor

The Power Point gives the information for the honor interspersed with times and directions for building either a truss or cable bridge.  Doing it this way allowed time for the bridge parts to dry.

I also had bridge directions on the table for them to reference.

Bridge directions

The bridge journal fulfills the requirement to make a scrapbook.  It would have been fun to make a multi-media presentation, too, but we didn’t have time.  The honor took a good 2.5 hrs, but could easily fill 3 to 4 hours.  The journal gives a space for the kids to draw the bridge and has facts about that kind of bridge.

BridgesJournalPIC

BridgeJournal

It also asks for 2 examples of each type of bridge.

I hope you enjoy doing this honor too!

Joseph Board Game

Joseph’s Journey From Prison to Palace

While we talking about Joseph.  Here is a game the kids enjoyed putting together during our Egypt VBS.  They started with the title board piece and the board piece for Day 1.   Each day they received a new board piece to add to their game.  By the end of the week they had all 6 pieces to make the full game.

Download a pdf of the game here:  Game Joseph’s Journey From Prison to Palace

In addition to the game boards, each child will need a dice, and 16 bingo chips.

Have fun playing!

Joseph skit

Joseph is one of my favorite Biblical characters.  In his story we learn that God knows the future and we can trust Him.  We also see faithfulness and forgiveness demonstrated in profound ways.  Here is a skit that I wrote for children’s church, which involves the audience.  It is a bit longer, so I’ll just post one scene here and provide this downloadable copy:

Joseph with audience participation

Joseph

Scene 2 – Not a typical day at Home Sweet Home

Bible MV:            (Recite Philippians 4:13)  “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Jacob:                   (Thinking out loud) Hmmmmm.  I want to do something special for Joseph.  I will make him a coat.  A coat of many colors!  (Go gets a rectangle of white paper that has been folded in half.  A neck hole has been cut out in the middle and the front has been cut from the neck hole to the bottom.   When done, tape edges from the arms down)

Audience leader:             We need some volunteers to help Jacob with Joseph’s coat.  (Gives each volunteer some squares [about 3”x3”] of colored paper and a glue stick.)  Here are some pieces of paper.  We need you to glue them to Joseph’s coat.  You can glue them wherever and however you want.  (Give them time to finish…. then ….)  Thank you!  That is beautiful and so colorful!  You may go back to your seats.

Jacob:                   (Calls)  Joseph, come here!  (Joseph comes)  Joseph, I’m impressed with how quick you learn and with your work around here.  I made a special coat for you.  Come try it on!

Joseph:                (puts on coat)  Thank you Father!  It’s gorgeous!  (hugs father)  Thank you!  Good night father.  (Goes to side of stage and lays down.)

Jacob:                   Good night son.  (leaves) (lights dim)

Extras:                  (Stand in a circle.  1 goes to the center.  All the others bow to the center one.   Then they all leave.  They come back.  One holds up a moon.   One holds up a sun.  The others hold up stars.  They all bow down to the sleeping Joseph.  Then they leave.)

Jacob:                   Good morning family!  Rise and shine!  There’s work to be done!

Reuben, Judah, Joseph (wearing robe), and Extras:  (Come in, greet Jacob, and sit down near him)    Good morning father!

Joseph:                May I tell you all something father?

Jacob:                   Sure son.  Come here.  Family, Joseph is wearing the new robe I gave him.  Joseph you are one special kid!

Joseph:                Thank you Father.  I had an interesting dream last night.  My brothers and I were out in the field harvesting wheat.  Then their sheaves of wheat bowed down to mine.

Reuben & Judah:     (sneer)  Are we going to bow down to you?

Joseph:                Then I had another dream.  The stars, moon, and sun bowed down to me.

Jacob:                   (wondering, reflective)  Will I bow down to you? …. Hmmm?  Will anyway, it’s time to get to work.  Boys, take the sheep to the upper pasture.  Joseph, I’ll send you with some food in a couple of days.

Reuben, Judah, & some extras  go get the sheep and walk around behind the audience and back up on the stage while everyone else leaves the stage.

Judah                    (Sits watching the sheep and talking to Reuben)  I’m not going to stand by while Joseph gets all the honor!  It’s not fair!

Joseph:                (walks in wearing the coat and carrying a bundle)  Hey brothers!  Dad sends his greeting.  How is it going?  I brought you some fresh food!

Reuben:               (takes food and leaves)  Thanks!

Judah & extras: (grab Joseph and tear off his coat)  Thanks for nothing.  You little dreamer!  Throw him in the well over there.  (throw him out a door or behind the set or into a box)

Joseph:                (talks into a water bottle to get the well echo effect)  Help!  Help!  Get me out!  Help!

Sometimes He Calms the StormMUSICAL DRAMATIZATION

This dramatization involves 3 actors and 6 minor actors.  It is written to go with the following song:

Music by:  Scott Krippayne

Dramatization by Janelle Clendenon

On stage have a sail boat and long light blue, medium blue, and white cloth or plastic laid out the length of the stage, as desired.  Stage hands (minor actors) will be stationed on either side of each length of color.  When indicated by the color described, they will lift that color length and move it up and down to demonstrate the action of the waves described.  Jesus figure is wearing white.  Child figure is wearing a color that stands out such as red, green, or purple.  Dark figure wears black.

All who sail the sea of faith find out before too long

Light blue lifted up like sky (top corner held high, bottom corners touching floor or hanging down)

How quickly blue skies can grow dark and gentle winds grow strong

Light blue lowered, all corners held, flapped like waves.  And darker blue held up like sky (top corner held high, bottom corners touching floor or hanging down)

Suddenly fear is like white water pounding on the soul

Add white, a little higher than the light blue, all corners held tight and flapped furiously like white cap waves

Still we sail on knowing that our Lord is in control

Jesus figure enters scene and stands behind boat

Sometimes He calms the storm with a whispered peace be still

Jesus figure holds up hands. White and light blue stop flapping and lower to floor. Darker blue settles to floor.

He can settle any sea but it doesn’t mean He will

Lt blue, white and dark blue raised and ready

Sometimes He holds us close and lets the wind and waves go wild

Lt blue, white, and dark blue, all corners held tightly, flapped vigorously like waves

Sometimes He calms the storm and other times He calms His child

Child figure enters.  Jesus figures opens arms, inviting a hug.  They hug.  Meanwhile waves of all colors continue to flap.

Sometimes He calms His child

Paul Wrote many letters

Galatians — A letter to the Christians at Galatia explores the roles of grace and obedience to rules and traditions.

Philippians — A letter from Paul to the Christians in Philippi encourages us to be content in whatever circumstance.  The joy God gives fills us despite whatever storm we may be in at the time, because God IS with us.

Colossians — Paul writes to the Christians in Colosse to remind them that Jesus is the VIP.  He is the Creator, Sustainer, Son of God, and Savior of the World.

1 Timothy — Paul writes to the new young pastor, Timothy to teach him how to set up the new church and be a great pastor.  He reminds all young people that they are capable of doing great things for God, because God has gifted them with talents and enables them to minister to His people.

2Timothy — Paul writes again to Timothy to encourage him to persevere and be faithful.  We too can be faithful workers who please God.
