The Stars Speak of the Glory of God

Isn’t it amazing all the galaxies they are finding? Isn’t it incredible how spectacular God’s creation is? There’s so many new resources on this topic. I’ll put some here and try to add some also. If you run across other resources that speak about the stars, galaxies, and heaven from the perspective of God’s creation, you can share them below.

There are several honors on this topic so this is going to be a longer post.

An oval patch featuring a white background with a yellow embroidered border and seven yellow stars arranged in a pattern.

Star Honor

The Star honor is a part of the Explorer Investiture Achievement. You can find the honor requirements here at this link. Learn about stars from the perspective of our solar system. I love Louie Giglio’s talk How Great is our God! Our amazing Creator loves you!

Honor Requirement link. This honor and presentation is more of a Q & A presentation. It has 60 slides! I recommend doing it more as part of your group’s favorite game and have prizes. You might let them either answer from their base of knowledge or find the answer on their phone in the space of a given time to receive credit for the answer.

Animal Camouflage Honor

Embroidered patch featuring a colorful chameleon on a branch, set within a circular border.

We found the Camouflage to be a fun, easy, and inexpensive nature honor to do. You can find the requirements here: https://wiki.pathfindersonline.org/w/AY_Honors/Animal_Camouflage/Requirements

The kids enjoyed the hide & seek game with a twist: hide in ‘plain sight’ but camouflage yourself. We told them in advance to bring clothes that would hide in the forest where we were camping.

They also enjoyed hiding little plastic animals in a place that camouflaged them and finding others’ animals.

A cheetah standing in tall grass with text overlay: 'Hope in the Lord' and 'Renewed strength' along with a Bible verse from Isaiah 40:31.

At fair, we presented the activity of Camouflage Decoupage with Modge Podge. Note the links to the products — just click on the blue underlined word. I’m sure there are others out there also. I printed out the following sheets and bought some scrapbook pages with leaves and sand. The kids were to choose an animal and background that the animal would be camouflaged in. Then they followed basic decoupage directions of using the Modge Podge to ‘glue’ the background to small wood square or circle, and then cover it with a light coat of Modge Podge. Smooth it horizontally and vertically each time, taking care that the paper is smooth as desired. Add the next layer which probably is the animal and possibly words chosen. Again cover everything with a light coat of Modge Podge. Add the next layer of the picture which is probably the foreground grass or leaves or more sand which will better hide the animal, but not cover it totally. Remember the idea is to hide in plain sight. Again cover everything with a light coat of Modge Podge. You can add more foreground layers as desired in the same way. Finally go over the whole project again with a light coat of Modge Podge smooth it horizontally and vertically. The end result could be a coaster.

Pathfinder Companion Investiture Achievement

The complete Companion requirements (for grade 6) can be found at https://www.clubministries.org/investiture-achievement/companion-level/

I have made the following PowerPoints which are a compilation of information, videos, and activities I have found on the web and others I have come up with. I like to use them as a backdrop for teaching the class or honor. As the instructor, I find it helpful to keep me on track and make sure that I cover all the information. It also fills in the gaps of things I’m not well versed on. I try to include activities in the presentation which we can do to add some fun and spice of life. I hope you find them useful too.

PowerPoint Presentations:

Animal Tracking

We had a lot of fun with the Animal Tracking honor. We did this as a family activity with the Adventurers. Most of our Companions had siblings in Adventurers at the time. One of the first activities was to follow the tracks we placed throughout the church and find the stuffed animal near the end. The kids then matched the track with the animal on their log book page. Here is the pdf of the tracks and logbook page.

This honor is presented in a Power Point presentation also which includes the above activity, a game, the honor questions, and directions for other tracking activities. Download here:

Creation

We combined the IA Creation requirements with the honors of Scrapbooking and Phototgraphy. We took pictures that represented each of the days of creation and then put them in scrapbooks along with the texts of that day of Creation.

Cultural Diversity Appreciation Honor

The Cultural Diversity Appreciation Honor is a fun honor. You can personalize it as you wish. Choose a country or two that are meaningful to your Pathfinders. The presentation gives you an outline of how you can present it. But get off the sofa and chairs and have fun trying new foods and playing games!

First Aid Basic Honor

The above presentations are comprehensive covering all the areas required by the Basic First Aid Honor.

Red Alert II

Now, Red Alert II is recommended for the Companions instead of Basic First Aid. You can find the Red Alert post and PowerPoint here: Red Alert II

Temperance IA Requirements or Honor

The presentation starts with general definitions of Temperance and the IA requirements. Then the instructor can you choose to continue the Temperance honor.

Trees & Shrubs Honor

The above presentation includes the answers to the questions of the Tree Honor and continues with pictures from our church’s yard which we collected leaves from. I used it as a identification guide for the kids.

Pathfinder MOUNTAIN Honor

Well, well, well I have gotten back into Pathfinders, so you can expect a few more Pathfinder things coming up.

This is an aspect of the MOUNTAINS honor. You can find the specifics on the NAD Pathfinder website here.

I was responsible for the requirements #5 and #7. Here is a slide presentation about those 2 requirements:

5. List at least four mountains mentioned in the Bible and tell what important events took place there: Mt Ararat, Mt. Carmel, Mt. Sinai, and Mt. Nebo.

7. Choose one of the following verses about mountains and recite it: a. Psalm 90:2 b. Isaiah 52:7 c. Isaiah 55:12
