Pathfinder Companion Investiture Achievement

The complete Companion requirements (for grade 6) can be found at https://www.clubministries.org/investiture-achievement/companion-level/

I have made the following PowerPoints which are a compilation of information, videos, and activities I have found on the web and others I have come up with. I like to use them as a backdrop for teaching the class or honor. As the instructor, I find it helpful to keep me on track and make sure that I cover all the information. It also fills in the gaps of things I’m not well versed on. I try to include activities in the presentation which we can do to add some fun and spice of life. I hope you find them useful too.

Honors — Potential PowerPoint Presentations:

Adventist Pioneers

Cacti Honor

Camping Skills II Honor

Knots

PowerPoint Presentations:

Animal Tracking

We had a lot of fun with the Animal Tracking honor. We did this as a family activity with the Adventurers. Most of our Companions had siblings in Adventurers at the time. One of the first activities was to follow the tracks we placed throughout the church and find the stuffed animal near the end. The kids then matched the track with the animal on their log book page. Here is the pdf of the tracks and logbook page.

This honor is presented in a Power Point presentation also which includes the above activity, a game, the honor questions, and directions for other tracking activities. Download here:

Creation

We combined the IA Creation requirements with the honors of Scrapbooking and Phototgraphy. We took pictures that represented each of the days of creation and then put them in scrapbooks along with the texts of that day of Creation.

Cultural Diversity Appreciation Honor

The Cultural Diversity Appreciation Honor is a fun honor. You can personalize it as you wish. Choose a country or two that are meaningful to your Pathfinders. The presentation gives you an outline of how you can present it. But get off the sofa and chairs and have fun trying new foods and playing games!

First Aid Basic Honor

The above presentations are comprehensive covering all the areas required by the Basic First Aid Honor.

Temperance IA Requirements or Honor

The presentation starts with general definitions of Temperance and the IA requirements. Then the instructor can you choose to continue the Temperance honor.

Trees & Shrubs Honor

The above presentation includes the answers to the questions of the Tree Honor and continues with pictures from our church’s yard which we collected leaves from. I used it as a identification guide for the kids.

Joseph

A coat of many colors and so much more! Joseph remained faithful to God in good times and bad — when his brothers were mean and when his dad treated him special; when he was a slave and when he was in charge; when he was in prison and when he was 2nd to Pharaoh. Joseph was quick to forgive, faithfully believed in God, and worked diligently.

Joseph Serves — Genesis 37, 38-47

This slide show tells the story of Joseph in a nutshell. Spice it up by giving the kids bread or crackers in a colorful napkin to remind them of Joseph’s robe and how he served others. Look for the many ways grain is mentioned in the story. Who did Joseph serve? We can serve our family, church, and everyone around us.

Joseph’s Coat of Many Colors and Trouble with Brothers — Genesis 37

This PowerPoint presentation gives you pictures, crafts, and songs to tell the story found in Genesis 37 about Joseph’s special coat of many colors, his dreams and the trouble they caused. His jealous brothers threw Joseph into a pit and then sold him to some Ishmaelite Midianites to be taken to Egypt and sold into slavery. How sad! But God had given him the dreams for a reason. They were tokens of hope. When life gives us lemons, God can make lemonade. He can turn bad news into good.

Joseph Ups and Downs with Potiphar and Prison — Genesis 39 & 40

Potiphar, Captain of the Guard, bought Joseph in Egypt. Because of his success, Potiphar promited him. But then Potiphar’s wife falsely accused him and Joseph ended up in prison. One day the Pharaoh’s cup bearer and baker, who had been thrown in prison, had dreams. Joseph, with God’s insight, accurately told them the meaning of the dreams. Through his many trials, Joseph continued to be faithful. He must have had an attitude of gratitude. In this presentation we use Joseph as an example of 2 Thessalonians 5:18. Be Thankful in all circumstances. Sometimes what feels like a really tough time, is God training us for something really important. When we look for things to be thankful for we are giving ourselves the gift of a positive attitude. Then we are better able to share God’s love and be faithful to Him. The craft is an abacus, which we use to count our many blessings.

From Prison to Palace — Genesis 41

The wise man can’t interpret Pharaoh’s dreams of fat & skinny cows and fat & skinny wheat, but God enables Joseph to do so. Joseph also gives a great plan on how to survive the 7 years of famine after the 7 years of plenty. Pharaoh is delighted with Joseph and his plan and promotes him on the spot. We did this presentation at Thanksgiving time. So one of the activities is to make a pyramid of things we are thankful for (written on Duplos). There also is an I Spy game and the cornbread in a jar activity pictured above. You’ll probably have to pick just a couple of these activities due to time.

Famine, Family and Forgiveness – Genesis 42-45

This presentation covers the many conversations Joseph had with his brothers as he tested them to see if they had changed from his boyhood days. They proved they had! Joseph gave them grain and proved that he had forgiven them. Forgiving others give peace and health.

Famine, Family, Forgiveness AND Reunited in Egypt — Genesis 42-50

This presentation includes a video covering Joseph’s brothers coming to Egypt, the tests, and Joseph revealing that he indeed was Joseph. The main theme is forgiveness. Fun activities include making an Egyptian collar, doing a maze, taking part in the conversations, and wrapping up a volunteer as a mummy.

Joseph Board Game

Joseph’s Journey From Prison to Palace

While we talking about Joseph.  Here is a game the kids enjoyed putting together during our Egypt VBS.  They started with the title board piece and the board piece for Day 1.   Each day they received a new board piece to add to their game.  By the end of the week they had all 6 pieces to make the full game.

Download a pdf of the game here:  Game Joseph’s Journey From Prison to Palace

In addition to the game boards, each child will need a dice, and 16 bingo chips.

Have fun playing!

Joseph skit

Joseph is one of my favorite Biblical characters.  In his story we learn that God knows the future and we can trust Him.  We also see faithfulness and forgiveness demonstrated in profound ways.  Here is a skit that I wrote for children’s church, which involves the audience.  It is a bit longer, so I’ll just post one scene here and provide this downloadable copy:

Joseph with audience participation

Joseph

Scene 2 – Not a typical day at Home Sweet Home

Bible MV:            (Recite Philippians 4:13)  “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Jacob:                   (Thinking out loud) Hmmmmm.  I want to do something special for Joseph.  I will make him a coat.  A coat of many colors!  (Go gets a rectangle of white paper that has been folded in half.  A neck hole has been cut out in the middle and the front has been cut from the neck hole to the bottom.   When done, tape edges from the arms down)

Audience leader:             We need some volunteers to help Jacob with Joseph’s coat.  (Gives each volunteer some squares [about 3”x3”] of colored paper and a glue stick.)  Here are some pieces of paper.  We need you to glue them to Joseph’s coat.  You can glue them wherever and however you want.  (Give them time to finish…. then ….)  Thank you!  That is beautiful and so colorful!  You may go back to your seats.

Jacob:                   (Calls)  Joseph, come here!  (Joseph comes)  Joseph, I’m impressed with how quick you learn and with your work around here.  I made a special coat for you.  Come try it on!

Joseph:                (puts on coat)  Thank you Father!  It’s gorgeous!  (hugs father)  Thank you!  Good night father.  (Goes to side of stage and lays down.)

Jacob:                   Good night son.  (leaves) (lights dim)

Extras:                  (Stand in a circle.  1 goes to the center.  All the others bow to the center one.   Then they all leave.  They come back.  One holds up a moon.   One holds up a sun.  The others hold up stars.  They all bow down to the sleeping Joseph.  Then they leave.)

Jacob:                   Good morning family!  Rise and shine!  There’s work to be done!

Reuben, Judah, Joseph (wearing robe), and Extras:  (Come in, greet Jacob, and sit down near him)    Good morning father!

Joseph:                May I tell you all something father?

Jacob:                   Sure son.  Come here.  Family, Joseph is wearing the new robe I gave him.  Joseph you are one special kid!

Joseph:                Thank you Father.  I had an interesting dream last night.  My brothers and I were out in the field harvesting wheat.  Then their sheaves of wheat bowed down to mine.

Reuben & Judah:     (sneer)  Are we going to bow down to you?

Joseph:                Then I had another dream.  The stars, moon, and sun bowed down to me.

Jacob:                   (wondering, reflective)  Will I bow down to you? …. Hmmm?  Will anyway, it’s time to get to work.  Boys, take the sheep to the upper pasture.  Joseph, I’ll send you with some food in a couple of days.

Reuben, Judah, & some extras  go get the sheep and walk around behind the audience and back up on the stage while everyone else leaves the stage.

Judah                    (Sits watching the sheep and talking to Reuben)  I’m not going to stand by while Joseph gets all the honor!  It’s not fair!

Joseph:                (walks in wearing the coat and carrying a bundle)  Hey brothers!  Dad sends his greeting.  How is it going?  I brought you some fresh food!

Reuben:               (takes food and leaves)  Thanks!

Judah & extras: (grab Joseph and tear off his coat)  Thanks for nothing.  You little dreamer!  Throw him in the well over there.  (throw him out a door or behind the set or into a box)

Joseph:                (talks into a water bottle to get the well echo effect)  Help!  Help!  Get me out!  Help!
