Lord’s Prayer — Forgive and Deliver us from Temptation and Sin

Slide with a warning about materialism featuring an illustration of a hyena caught in a trap, accompanied by a biblical quote from 1 Timothy 6:9.

…”And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:9-13

The LORD knows us better than even we know ourselves. Remember how He knew Peter’s weakness and counseled that he pray that he would not fall into temptation? He counsels us to do the same. In this PowerPoint presentation we look at what temptation means and how to avoid falling into sin. The best news is that Jesus is victorious and with Him, we are winners too!

Greed or Generosity? Preparation: Have 2 buckets, as pictured above, attached to the ceiling or high place by their handles. The handles should be large enough to allow the bucket to tip over. Bucket 1 has ping pong balls and a string with a dollar bill attached. Bucket 2 is filled with dollar bills, stickers, etc. (enough for everyone in your class) and has a heart attached to the pull string. The pull strings are attached to the edge of the buckets. The first volunteer should ‘choose’ greed as represented by the rolled up dollar bill. When they pull on the string they get the dollar and are pelted with ping pong balls – hailstones. The second volunteer should choose ‘generosity’ and the kingdom of God (love, righteousness, compassion, etc.) When they pull on the string and the bucket tips, they are pelted with dollar bills, stickers, and whatever other light, gentle items that you have put in the bucket.

You are the Salt and Light of the World — Matthew 5:13-16

This presentation starts with Jesus calling Matthew to be one of his disciples. Later at a dinner at Matthew’s house, the Pharisees ask why Jesus eats with tax collectors and sinners. Jesus replies that He has come to call sinners. On the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us that we are the salt and light of the world. This presentation continues by exploring how we are like salt and light to the world. It includes experiments, snacks, songs, and crafts. We are to share the light of God’s truth and His love to all around us. Our good deeds glorify God and help others.

The Golden Rule and How to Treat Others — portions of Matthew 6-8

This presentation starts out with the Golden Rule: Do unto others how you would have them do for you. This is expanded upon as Jesus teaches us about generosity and councils us not to be judgemental. Have fun with the object lessons and crafts included.

Don’t Worry about food and clothes; Seek First His Kingdom and Righteousness — Matthew 6 and Luke 12
