Centurion’s Servant Healed

Matthew 5:17-20 and 8:1-13

There are 2 options for this lesson:

Go, He is Well — One with Authority Speaks and it Happens

Illustration featuring a man with a beard and traditional clothing, discussing a biblical passage about Jesus healing someone, with text excerpts from Matthew 8.

This lesson looks at two stories that demonstrate Jesus’ authority, how he held up the law, and the people’s faith in Him. The leper asked to be healed if Jesus was willing. Jesus did and asked also that he keep the law and show himself to the priest. The Centurion recognized that Jesus, like himself, was one under authority and had authority. Thus, he had faith that Jesus could just say the word and it would be done. God answers our prayers, too. There is also the opportunity to have a nurse or doctor to come in and show items they use to help people get well. By doing what the doctor and nurses tell us, we can get well, too.

Just say the Word — Faith, Believing it will be Done

A cartoon illustration depicting a biblical scene with characters discussing belief and healing, set against ancient ruins.

In this presentation we look at many examples of faith. We read and act out two stories where Jesus just spoke the word and a man believed, and the sick person was healed. The nature nugget is about how the plover bird ‘has faith’ that the crocodile won’t eat him! We can trust God. He loves and cares for us. He is strong and generous. Even though we might not see it, we can have faith in Him and his promises. We also experience what faith feels like by being blindfolded and following directions. This is a full lesson.

The Beatitudes — Matthew 5:3-12

This PowerPoint presentation gives you the backdrop and ideas to teach the Beatitudes. Many of the beatitudes encourage us to be humble and seek God and his blessings. God is so generous! He is waiting and so willing to give us blessing after blessing. Get ready to throw money, pop a balloon, press playdough, and so much more!

You are the Salt and Light of the World — Matthew 5:13-16

This presentation starts with Jesus calling Matthew to be one of his disciples. Later at a dinner at Matthew’s house, the Pharisees ask why Jesus eats with tax collectors and sinners. Jesus replies that He has come to call sinners. On the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us that we are the salt and light of the world. This presentation continues by exploring how we are like salt and light to the world. It includes experiments, snacks, songs, and crafts. We are to share the light of God’s truth and His love to all around us. Our good deeds glorify God and help others.

The Golden Rule and How to Treat Others — portions of Matthew 6-8

This presentation starts out with the Golden Rule: Do unto others how you would have them do for you. This is expanded upon as Jesus teaches us about generosity and councils us not to be judgemental. Have fun with the object lessons and crafts included.

Don’t Worry about food and clothes; Seek First His Kingdom and Righteousness — Matthew 6 and Luke 12

In this presentation we learn about how God created the birds to get their food. He cares for each of His creation -including us! He made beautiful flowers and will make us beautiful too.
