Lord’s Prayer — Forgive and Deliver us from Temptation and Sin

Slide with a warning about materialism featuring an illustration of a hyena caught in a trap, accompanied by a biblical quote from 1 Timothy 6:9.

…”And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:9-13

The LORD knows us better than even we know ourselves. Remember how He knew Peter’s weakness and counseled that he pray that he would not fall into temptation? He counsels us to do the same. In this PowerPoint presentation we look at what temptation means and how to avoid falling into sin. The best news is that Jesus is victorious and with Him, we are winners too!

Greed or Generosity? Preparation: Have 2 buckets, as pictured above, attached to the ceiling or high place by their handles. The handles should be large enough to allow the bucket to tip over. Bucket 1 has ping pong balls and a string with a dollar bill attached. Bucket 2 is filled with dollar bills, stickers, etc. (enough for everyone in your class) and has a heart attached to the pull string. The pull strings are attached to the edge of the buckets. The first volunteer should ‘choose’ greed as represented by the rolled up dollar bill. When they pull on the string they get the dollar and are pelted with ping pong balls – hailstones. The second volunteer should choose ‘generosity’ and the kingdom of God (love, righteousness, compassion, etc.) When they pull on the string and the bucket tips, they are pelted with dollar bills, stickers, and whatever other light, gentle items that you have put in the bucket.

Jesus Overcomes Temptation

Jesus overcame temptation and He will help us overcome temptation, too! We can put on the full armor of God, pray, and stand firm against temptation.

In this presentation we take a close look at Jesus’ temptations and how he overcame. We look at the verses He quoted in Deuteronomy and see that God is #1 and find that His Word is our Sword. The kids can make a simple dough person and add simple shapes to represent the armor of God as we learn ways to overcome temptation.

You can preview the lesson below. The download above has more music and a video of the dessert which I made while there.

Adam & Eve and their family

Adam and Eve Make a Very Bad Choice — The first Sin — Genesis 3

How are we tempted? This story of Adam and Eve, who were perfect people living in the perfect place were tempted and fell. How do we resist temptation? The book of James gives us some really good principles of resisting temptation and staying close to God. In this presentation, we explore these big ideas.

Cain and Abel — Jealousy and Anger – Genesis 4

It did not take long for the affect of sin to be manifested in people’s lives. Cain chose not to offer a sacrifice which God desired. Maybe it was his heart that made it not pleasing. (2 Corinthians 9:7) Maybe it was the sacrifice itself that wasn’t as required. (Leviticus 3). Whatever the case, jealousy and anger followed. We’ll discuss how to control our anger.

Enoch and Methuselah Walk With God — Genesis 5

The Bible doesn’t tell us too much about Enoch and Methuselah, but we do know that they ‘walked with God’. We’ll explore what that means through various scripture and activities. We want to get to know God so well that He is our best friend!
