Lord’s Prayer — Forgive and Deliver us from Temptation and Sin

Slide with a warning about materialism featuring an illustration of a hyena caught in a trap, accompanied by a biblical quote from 1 Timothy 6:9.

…”And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:9-13

The LORD knows us better than even we know ourselves. Remember how He knew Peter’s weakness and counseled that he pray that he would not fall into temptation? He counsels us to do the same. In this PowerPoint presentation we look at what temptation means and how to avoid falling into sin. The best news is that Jesus is victorious and with Him, we are winners too!

Greed or Generosity? Preparation: Have 2 buckets, as pictured above, attached to the ceiling or high place by their handles. The handles should be large enough to allow the bucket to tip over. Bucket 1 has ping pong balls and a string with a dollar bill attached. Bucket 2 is filled with dollar bills, stickers, etc. (enough for everyone in your class) and has a heart attached to the pull string. The pull strings are attached to the edge of the buckets. The first volunteer should ‘choose’ greed as represented by the rolled up dollar bill. When they pull on the string they get the dollar and are pelted with ping pong balls – hailstones. The second volunteer should choose ‘generosity’ and the kingdom of God (love, righteousness, compassion, etc.) When they pull on the string and the bucket tips, they are pelted with dollar bills, stickers, and whatever other light, gentle items that you have put in the bucket.

A Day in the Life of Jesus — preaching, healing, and praying — Luke 4 and Mark 1

An illustrated depiction of Jesus teaching in a synagogue in Capernaum, with a map showing Capernaum's location.

Luke 4 tells of a very busy Sabbath day in Nazareth. Jesus starts by preaching in the synagogue and casts out a demon. After church he and his disciples go to Peter and Andrew’s home where he heals Peter’s mother-in-law and then they have lunch. After sundown (which technically it’s the next day), the town people bring the sick to be healed. Even after a late night, Jesus gets up early to spend time with His Father. Throughout the day, Jesus is living his sermon, which came from Isaiah 61. He came to tell the good news, give sight to the blind, and set people free. We finish the presentation with a obstacle course activity. The coloring page book that goes along with the lesson can be found here:
