Here you'll find an array of activities for elementary children that can be used in Children's Ministry, after-school programs, in the classroom and by homeschoolers.
Elijah is one of my favorite Bible characters. God sends him on some challenging missions, but He is with him every step of the way. I’m reminded that if God gives a task, He will enable us to do it. He will care for us, even when (especially when) we are exhausted. I like Elijah have felt that exhaustion after a mountain top experience (directing VBS).
These PowerPoint presentations include the Bible story, activities, and songs. My hope is that you and the kids we share them with will gain a closer relationship with God and realize how vast His love is for us.
This presentation includes the craft (from Danielles Place) that’s pictured above. After reading the story from the Bible, the kids will have an opportunity to take turns hiding like Elijah and taking that person a snack like the ravens. Of course there’s songs, too. Ravens are the spotlight on nature, of course. These are intelligent birds!
After hearing the story, the kids get to act out the story of Elijah coming to the widow of Zarepheth found in 1 Kings 17:7-24. They can make some dough also and then use it to make a recipe card holder. Materials include flour, salt, water, dixie cup, popsicle stick, and a clothespin. The presentation includes songs and videos of meerkats caring for eachother. God cares for us and wants us to care for others.
After 3 years of drought, God gives Elijah the responsibility to call the people together and call for rain. We focus on our mighty God and the importance of praying to him. The activities include a prayer book, the snack pictured above, and a science activity on how to make rain in a jar. God sends the rain. God hears and answers prayer. He is LORD!
This presentation is an interactive story that follows 1 Kings 19. Have on hand a fan. When we are afraid, God meets us and reassures us. He has a plan. Help is on the way. Retell part of the story with a wheel craft. Finish the lesson with a whisper challenge using an empty roll of wrapping paper to give the distance required. Teacher on one end asks a question or gives directions and child on other end answers or follows the directions.
God took Elijah to heaven in a whirlwind, riding a fiery chariot. We start this presentation by making tornado/whirlwind bottles. During the story, there are items on each slide to find that have to do with the topic for that slide. We finish by coloring a picture of Elijah going to heaven. We made the cloak movable by attaching it to a string. Have fun!
God promised Abraham that that his family would have the land of Canaan. He accurately predicted that they would spend time in Egypt and that he would bring them out. The book of Exodus tells how this happened. God did bring his chosen people, the Israelite’s, to the land of Canaan, the promised land. Here are some presentations we have done during Zoom Sabbath School from the life of Moses. This part covers the stories of Baby Moses through the Red Sea.
Moses’ was saved for a purpose. This PowerPoint presentation leads you in telling the story of his birth and being saved through his mother’s faith and a basket boat. The kids have an opportunity to make a basket and find hidden pictures in each slide that highlight aspects of the story.
Moses has a heart for his birth family even though he grows up among the riches of the palace. However, that passion doesn’t end well at first. Because of murder, he flees to the dessert. Here God adds to his the leadership and military training he received in the palace. He learns patience and the ways of the desert as a shepherd and father. Now he is ready. God calls Moses from a burning bush. God hears the cry of His people. He sees their misery. He has a plan to save them. Kids can pretend to be Moses and act out the story.
Let My People Go! Plagues 1-8 — Exodus 5-10
God warned Moses that Pharaoh’s heart was hard and that it would take a mighty hand to deliver the Israelites. He also said He would reveal His Sovereignty. God designed the plagues to refute Egypts gods and show that indeed He was and is the One Ruler over all. This presentation also includes the story of bricks without straw which is the result of Moses’ first encounter with this Pharaoh. There are several craft options. If you have live specimens to show the kids, that would be fun.
In this PowerPoint presentation the kids review the first 8 plagues and then learn about the 9th plague of darkness and the final plague of the first born sons dying of the Egyptians. Finally Pharaoh is ready to let all the people and animals go free! God knows they won’t have long. While the Egyptians are plunged into darkness, the Isrealites quickly prepare to leave. God institutes the Passover Holiday to help them remember His Sovereignty and their Emancipation. God sets each of us free from the slavery of sin. Jesus, the Lamb of God, has died for us and rose again so that we can have eternal life and be with Him eternally in our Promised Land. Praise God!
In this presentation, the kids will get to make a craft and act out the story of the dramatic escape through the Red Sea. The Israelite’s were in a pickle; a God-designed pickle. How would they escape the Egyptians when they were stuck between mountains and the gigantic Red Sea? When we are in a pickle, we too can be calm, pray, and know that God will make a way. He will fight for us. He will lead us. He will always be with us!
