More Good Kings of Judah

God promised that the KING, the Messiah would come from the line of Judah. This was the family line of David. Jesus was born from this line.

Though there were evil kings, there were many good kings that did choose to worship God and tried to encourage the people to turn to the LORD. These lessons focus on these. Joash was saved from wicked queen Athaliah and grew up in the temple of the Lord. He learned to love, worship, and obey God. His son, grandson, and great grandson also followed the way of the Lord. In this section of presentations we look at these good kings of Judah. We too want to love, worship and obey the Lord.

These Kings rule during the times of various prophets. For suggested order of lessons according to the timeline see my Scope and Sequence of lessons. The prophet lessons can be found on their own pages. The overview of OT kings and prophets is the easiest page to find these.

King Jehoshaphat faithfully serves our Faithful God — 2 Chronicles 17, 19, 20

King Jehoshaphat loved God and wanted everyone to know Him and His law. He sent teachers and judges throughout the land. He strengthened the land both spiritually and physically. He built forts and made many cities store cities. When a huge army from Edom and Moab came against Judah, he turned to God and encouraged everyone to fast and pray. God answered their prayer. They were so confident that God would fulfill His promise to fight the battle that they singers went before the army, praising God. This lesson is about faithfulness and praising God. The object lesson uses seeds and the craft is a trumpet.

King Joash Repairs the Temple — 2 Kings 11 & 12

As a baby, Joash was rescued. He learned to love the Lord. He really wanted the temple of the Lord to look beautiful again. He collected money and made sure that repairs were made. We too can bring our offerings to church so that it looks great and others can get to know God, too.

King Hezekiah — boast only in the Lord – 2 Kings 18-22

In this lesson, we learn that wise men should not boast about their wisdom, mighty men shouldn’t boast about their strength, rich men shouldn’t boast about their wealth. We should only boast in the Lord. The king of Assyria and commanders boasted and made fun of God. Hezekiah trusted God to take care of the problem. God answered his prayer and won the battle. Later Hezekiah got sick. Again God answered His prayers. Find out what that has to do with a sundial. We have fun with shadows and making our own sundial. The Babylonian king sent King Hezekiah a get well letter and gift, but then Hezekiah did something not wise. He showed off all of his things. That didn’t end so well.

King Solomon

Solomon was David and Bathsheba’s son. Their first son died due to David’s sin. However, when Solomon was born, God told David and Bathsheba that He loved him. In fact God named him Jedidiah, loved by God. King David promised Bathsheba that when the time came, Solomon would be the next king. King Solomon was given great wisdom and God was more than happy to grant his request and give him much more besides. Our God is a gracious, generous, rich Provider.

Come journey with us as we learn about King Solomon and gain wisdom from him. These presentations are made so that you, the teacher, have the Bible text, pictures, and activities which you can display on your computer and classroom TV/screen or on Zoom or other online presentation. I hope you enjoy them.

This presentation starts out with a baton relay which leads into the story of King David passing the leadership to Solomon and has him crowned king. King Solomon starts his reign by worshiping and praising God. God asks Solomon to ask for anything he wants and He will give it to him. Solomon asks for wisdom! Another activity is to search for Proverb coins as Proverbs 2:4-6 and 16:16 suggest.

When the temple was all done, God answered the prayers and praise. He filled the temple with His glorious presence like a cloud and sent fire to consume the sacrifice. God desires to be with us too and to consume all our sin and woes. Remember, “Where two or three are gathered in My Name, there I will be with them.” Matthew 18:20 For the craft, we made a mobile reminding us to worship and praise God.

One of the things Solomon talked about was working hard. He said to look at the ants, so we do. We also learn of the queen of Sheba’s visit. She brought spices and jewels, so we look at and smell spices and show special stones and jewels. Finally, there is a game at the end.
