Prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah

Isaiah and Jeremiah were tasked with telling the nation of Judah that calamity was coming if they did not repent and turn from their wicked ways. They also gave hope and encouragement that God had not forsaken them. He would spare a remnant that turn to God and return to their land. God would also send the Messiah who would fulfill the covenant, save them from their sins, write God’s law on their hearts, and make a new covenant that would give all who believe eternal life.

Prophet Isaiah’s commission and messages — Send Me — Isaiah 1 plus

Isaiah sees God in all His glory and holiness and knows that he himself is a sinner and unclean. Confessing this, his sin is atoned for. He responds to God’s invitation to go, “send me” without even knowing what his mission is. In this lesson we talk about willingness to go and do something and about sharing God’s messages and love with others. Isaiah throughout his book, gives the promise and hope that God will send a Messiah to take away sin and make all things new.

Isaiah messages of hope fulfilled by Jesus

Prophet Jeremiah and King Josiah — God is the Potter, We are the Clay — Jeremiah 1, 18; 2 Kings 22

The first lesson we learn in this presentation is that God knows that young people are capable of doing important jobs with His help. Jeremiah also learns that God is persistent and faithful. Just like a potter starts over if a pot isn’t turning out right, God too will try, try again to help us understand Him and His ways. The object lesson looks at dry playdough and new, moist playdough. Can we add water (Jesus) and oil (the Holy Spirit) to make the dry dough soft again?
